James Warring

CEO and Founder

James Warring has built a long and steady career in the tax and financial advisory fields, guided by discipline, technical precision, and consistent leadership. He was raised in Montgomery County, Maryland, where his early environment emphasized structure, responsibility, and education. He completed high school in 1979 and later pursued higher education at a university in Baltimore. These early academic years helped shape his interest in accounting, finance, and long-term planning, forming the foundation for decades of professional work focused on careful analysis and client service.

Laying the Foundation

He completed his undergraduate studies in accounting and finance in 1983. Entering the profession during this period required adaptability and close attention to detail, as regulatory standards and fiduciary expectations were changing rapidly. At the start of his career, he focused on building a strong technical base while learning how rules and standards applied in real client situations. This early emphasis on accuracy and application helped him develop reliability and sound professional judgment.

During the mid-1980s, James reached several important professional milestones. He earned the Certified Public Accountant credential in 1984, followed by the Certified Financial Planner credential in 1986. These achievements reflected focused preparation and a long-term commitment to professional development. He later expanded his qualifications by earning the Personal Financial Specialist designation in 1990, strengthening his ability to integrate accounting knowledge with broader financial planning responsibilities.

These professional credentials played an essential role in shaping his career path. Over time, he worked at seven accounting firms throughout the metropolitan Washington, DC area. Each role exposed him to different client structures, compliance requirements, and operational environments. This wide range of experience allowed him to observe how firms function under varying regulatory and business conditions. The exposure helped him refine his judgment, understand operational strengths and weaknesses, and prepare for future leadership responsibilities.

From Practitioner to Owner

After completing a 12-year partnership at an accounting firm in Bethesda, Maryland, Warring entered a new stage of his career in 2007. At that point, he launched two separate businesses, one focused on investment advisory services and the other on public accounting. This transition marked a shift from practitioner to owner, expanding his responsibilities to include governance, regulatory oversight, and long-term organizational planning.

From the outset, he deliberately decided to operate the two businesses as separate organizations. This structure supported clarity in governance, regulatory alignment, and service specialization. At the same time, both organizations shared coordinated leadership and a unified professional culture. This approach reflected his belief that clear structure and defined boundaries are essential for ethical practice and sustainable growth.

Rather than pursuing rapid consolidation or aggressive expansion, James Warring chose a growth strategy centered on patience and consistency. Over the next 15 years, this approach proved effective. Both organizations expanded nearly tenfold during this period. What began as a four-person operation grew to more than forty employees by the time the businesses were sold in September 2025. This growth occurred gradually, allowing systems, teams, and client relationships to develop without unnecessary disruption.

He attributed much of this expansion to strategic integration. In the later years of ownership, five practices joined the platform, including four accounting practices and one third-party administrator practice. Each integration was handled carefully, with attention to operational depth and client continuity. These additions strengthened internal capabilities while preserving established service standards. More importantly, they reflected a leadership style focused on long-term stability rather than short-term outcomes.

Leadership Beyond the Firm

His professional involvement extended beyond his own organizations. He accepted leadership roles within several national and regional professional groups, contributing experience and perspective to broader industry efforts. He served as a past leader of a regional estate planning organization and also participated as an advisory board member for a hospital-based planned giving initiative in Maryland.

In addition, James served on the executive committee of the personal financial planning section of a national professional organization. In this role, he shared insight shaped by decades of advisory work, compliance oversight, and organizational leadership. His participation reflected a commitment to maintaining professional standards and supporting collaboration across the field.

His leadership efforts were formally recognized in 2020 when he received a business leadership award for organizational performance. This recognition came during a period of industry disruption and shifting client expectations. The award reflected his ability to guide organizations steadily through uncertainty while maintaining focus on ethical practice and long-term goals.

A Lifelong Passion for Golf

Athletics has been an enduring part of his life. During high school, he was ranked third in Maryland for golf, demonstrating early dedication and competitive focus. He continued to play at a competitive level while attending university, balancing academic responsibilities with athletic commitment.

Golf remained an active pursuit throughout his adult life. Warring was a member at a private country club for more than 28 years, where he regularly participated in competitive events. In 2022, he won the Tuffy Leeman Championship in a two-person event with his playing partner. This achievement reflected years of preparation, steady practice, and focus.

After relocating to Florida, he continued to compete at a high level. While playing at another private country club, he won the 2024 Bubba Invitational Match Play title. These accomplishments reflected the same qualities that supported his professional success, including patience, preparation, and the ability to perform under pressure.

The Next Chapter

His personal values are closely connected to his leadership style and community involvement. James and his family are active participants in a church in Clearwater Beach, Florida, contributing through regular giving and continued engagement. Faith-based stewardship plays a vital role in how he approaches responsibility, planning, and service.

These values influenced how his organizations were structured and managed. Stability, ethical clarity, and long-term continuity were priorities for both employees and clients. When the time came to sell his business interests to a New York-based money management firm, his focus was on alignment rather than profit alone. Ensuring continuity and shared principles guided that decision.

Across more than four decades of professional work, James Warring consistently emphasized steady advancement over rapid change. As he moves beyond business ownership, he views this stage as a continuation of a life shaped by measured growth, responsibility, and contribution. He remains guided by the same principles that defined his career from the beginning.
